Be at the forefront of change and become a part of the innovative and forward-thinking academic team at the University of Michigan-Flint's Social Work Department in the rapidly expanding College of Health Sciences! The Social Work Department is searching for a Program Director for its Master's of Social Work (MSW) program. The program is currently in CSWE candidacy status. Initial Accreditation Decision is expected in June 2027. This is a 12-month, full-time tenure- or clinical-track faculty position with a 50% effort appointment for MSW program administration and a 50% effort instructional appointment. We seek to hire faculty whose scholarship and clinical expertise focus on clinical social work, mental and behavioral health practice, or social work practice in healthcare settings. The start date is negotiable.
The College of Health Sciences is located in the William S. White Building on the beautiful UM-Flint campus. To learn more about the University of Michigan-Flint campus, click here. This hybrid position requires a regular presence on campus. Currently, faculty in the College of Health Sciences are required to report to campus a minimum of two days per week. This is subject to change based on program, department, college, or university needs.

Required Qualification
Clinical Assistant Professor
A Master's degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program
A minimum of three (3) years of full-time, post-MSW professional practice experience
Demonstrated excellence in clinical or academic education
Evidence of professional development
Record of service contributions in the clinical setting and/or profession
Clinical Associate Professor
Meets the criteria for Clinical Assistant Professor, AND the following:
A minimum of five (5) years of full-time, post-MSW professional practice experience
Demonstrated clinical scholarship activities
Clinical Professor
Meets the criteria for Clinical Assistant Professor and Clinical Associate Professor, AND the following:
A relevant doctoral or terminal degree
A minimum of eight (8) years of full-time, post-MSW professional practice experience
Expertise in clinical program development
Evidence of outstanding teaching at the national level
Consistent record of service
Excellent and consistent clinical scholarly activities
Tenure-Track Assistant Professor
Academic doctoral degree or terminal doctoral degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program
Associate Professor with Tenure
Academic doctoral degree or terminal doctoral degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program
A minimum of five (5) years of combined experience in teaching and research at a four-year institution or comprehensive university
Professor with Tenure
Academic doctoral degree or terminal doctoral degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program
A minimum of ten (10) years of combined experience in teaching and research at a four-year institution or comprehensive university
Prior appointment as an Associate Professor at a four-year institution or comprehensive university
All Positions:
A minimum of one (1) year of administrative experience and a record of effective leadership in a CSWE-accredited MSW or BSW program
Eligibility for professional social work licensure in the State of Michigan
To be considered for an Associate or Full Professor level in clinical- or tenure-track position, the candidate must meet the appropriate required qualifications above, demonstrate scholarly productivity based on track requirements, undergo a college review process. Senior faculty status is contingent upon University of Michigan Board of Regents approval.
